"Beyond Frontiers" Coaching at Work Conference

Lis Merrick is running a session at the Coaching at Work “Beyond Frontiers” Conference on the 23rd November 2011.

She will be presenting a cross-cultural mentoring case study from her work with the World Wildlife Fund. The case study will showcase using two relationships, with the same mentee, some of the best practice in mentoring across different cultures, as well as illustrating women’s leadership mentoring.

Lis Merrick and Paul Stokes are submitting a chapter on Supervision in Mentoring Programmes in a new book edited by Tatiana Bachkirova, Peter Jackson and David Clutterbuck entitled “Perspectives on supervision for coaching and mentoring” to be published in the Autumn of 2011.
Lis Merrick and Paul Stokes are also writing a chapter on “Designing Mentoring Schemes” in the new Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of the Psychology of Coaching and Mentoring edited by Jonathan Passmore, to be published later in 2011.

EMCC Conference London 2011

Bob Garvey and Lis Merrick presented at the UK EMCC Conference in London on the 30th March 2011 on “The future of Mentoring”.
It was a very refreshing, fun and inspiring session which provided an opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest trends in mentoring programme development in the workplace with a view to equipping the participant with the knowledge to reflect on the best design for future mentoring programme activity within their own or a client organisation.

The session began with an update on the different modes of mentoring that can be utilised in the workplace and encompass good practice in present day dyadic mentoring, role model mentoring, peer mentoring, co mentoring, multiple mentors and reverse mentoring. The powerfulness and "darker" side of organisational mentoring was also brought into this discussion.

The most state of the art design ideas in mentoring were then explored and some of the work that the two presenters have been involved in with different organisations was brought into this part of the session. They focussed on virtual mentoring, talent management mentoring, cross border,cultural and multiple mentoring and the use of mentoring between the community and business.

Mentoring Person of the Year

Lis Merrick, Managing Director of Coach Mentoring Ltd, was among those nominated for the Coaching at Work Mentoring Person of the Year “because she is a passionate advocate, enthusiastic and has impacted on many organisations with mentoring initiatives - not least in the North West and across Europe”, along with Paul Stokes, Principal Lecturer at Sheffield Business School.
