Like many of us, life was busy, and the idea of adding a rigorous academic programme initially seemed out of reach. However, Ruairi took the plunge\u2014and what followed was a transformative experience that not only redefined his career but also changed how he approaches leadership and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Starting the Leadership Learning Journey: A Leap of Faith<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know much about coaching,\u201d Ruairi admits. \u201cI signed up with curiosity, but when I saw the coursework included academic essays \u2013 I thought, \u2018Oh no, what have I done?\u2019\u201d But through the early webinars and foundational learning, he quickly realised the depth and potential of the programme.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt was like a new lens. Suddenly, so much made sense.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>The Impact of Coaching Insights<\/h2>\n<p>For Ruairi, the programme wasn\u2019t just about learning coaching techniques; it was about understanding complex organisational dynamics. While working with Save the Children, the programme\u2019s focus on culture and power dynamics helped him better understand the intricate systems within large organisations. He even wrote one assignment to analyse the organisational culture, which became a cornerstone of his learning.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe course taught me to truly listen,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ruairi reflects.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI thought I was listening before, but I wasn\u2019t \u2013 I was interpreting everything through my own lens. Coaching taught me how to be present and genuinely hear people.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Bridging Coaching and Leadership<\/h2>\n<p>The skills Ruairi gained didn\u2019t just enhance his coaching; they revolutionised his leadership approach. \u201cI was working on a Master\u2019s dissertation on risk-based decision-making for humanitarian responses, and I found myself bringing coaching principles into my research,\u201d he says. These skills also became integral to his consulting business, which he launched after completing the programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just about coaching sessions,\u201d Ruairi explains.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s about how you engage with clients, how you ask questions, and how you create a space for growth.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>A Lasting Transformation\u2014seeing the world differently<\/h2>\n<p>Today, Ruairi continues to use his coaching skills in a variety of settings, from pro bono work with humanitarian leaders to professional consulting projects for L\u00c9ASL\u00cdNE CONSULTING LTD. \u201cIt\u2019s had a profound impact,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe programme wasn\u2019t just about becoming a coach \u2013 it was about seeing the world differently.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked what advice he\u2019d give to someone considering the course, Ruairi is clear: \u201cUnderstand the commitment.
