\"CultivateElaine, like many, didn\u2019t start her career intending to become a coach. But an early experience working with a coach left her fascinated by its power to transform thinking. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t earth-shattering, but it opened my eyes. Someone simply listened to me and gently challenged my thinking in a way I hadn\u2019t experienced before,\u201d Elaine recalls.<\/p>\n

That seed of curiosity eventually grew into her decision to join the PGC programme, supported by her organisation as an investment in her leadership journey. The Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) in Coaching and Mentoring for Leadership in Organisations<\/a> became the foundation she needed\u2014not only to lead more effectively but also to unlock the potential in others.<\/p>\n

Learning to See Through New Lenses<\/h2>\n

\"ConfidenceThe PGC experience introduced Elaine to new ways of approaching both her work and her interactions with others. A critical skill she developed was self-reflection\u2014something she\u2019d never done systematically before. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t just about reflecting on decisions but actively questioning assumptions, biases, and deeply ingrained habits. I learned to approach conversations without an agenda, which completely changed how I connect with people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another breakthrough came from exploring curiosity. \u201cI realised how much I\u2019d limited myself by carrying cultural, gender, and professional biases. Coaching<\/a> gave me permission to explore, to be truly curious about others\u2019 experiences and viewpoints. That shift in mindset made me a better leader and a better listener.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coaching Through Uncertainty and Change<\/h2>\n

Elaine\u2019s ability to use coaching during times of upheaval<\/a> became particularly powerful when her organisation went through a restructuring. \u201cPeople were questioning their purpose, wrestling with imposter syndrome and doubt. Coaching allowed me to help them reframe their thinking, clarify their priorities, and approach the future with confidence. It gave them\u2014and me\u2014a sense of agency during a time when we felt powerless.\u201d<\/p>\n

She describes coaching during those months as a deeply rewarding experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen everything felt chaotic, helping someone else see their strengths and take meaningful steps forward kept me grounded too.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Shaping the Future with Confidence<\/h2>\n

Three years on, Elaine continues to integrate coaching into her career. While her role doesn\u2019t officially involve coaching, her team values her ability to bring these skills into everyday leadership. Beyond her current role, Elaine envisions building a future where coaching plays a central part. \u201cThe PGC helped me discover something I love and am good at. It\u2019s made me think differently about how I want to spend the next five to ten years\u2014supporting others to grow and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elaine also reflects on the joy of seeing her clients\u2019 growth. \u201cWhen someone you\u2019ve coached starts showing ambition and confidence they couldn\u2019t imagine before, it\u2019s incredibly fulfilling. Coaching isn\u2019t just a skill; it\u2019s a way to create ripples of positive change in people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
