The second stage of a progressive master’s-level pathway. Building on the Postgraduate Certificate, which forms the first year of the MA route, this Postgraduate Diploma provides a rigorous and practice-informed opportunity to extend understanding, deepen reflective capability, and strengthen professional coaching and mentoring practice.

  • PG Diploma designed for practitioners who wish to consolidate advanced knowledge and apply coaching and mentoring with greater critical insight in organisational contexts.

Module 1: The Essentials of Advanced Coaching & Mentoring Practice

(22.5 hours contact time)

The aim of this module is to provide participants with an opportunity to develop understanding of advanced coaching and mentoring practice and how this might be effectively used.

Learning outcomes

  1. Undertake a critical analyse and evaluation a range of concepts, theories, arguments and models of advanced coaching and mentoring practice that can be applied to a coaching and mentoring context.
  2. Critically evaluate the complexities and challenges associated in developing and evaluating coaching and mentoring schemes in an organisational context.
  3. Critical reflect on the psychological and cultural dimensions of coaching and mentoring in an organisational context to inform personal practice.

For the assessment, choose a minimum of three of the topics covered in the module and critically explore their use and application within your own practice and the setting in which you and your clients work. 

Module 2: Advanced Coaching Practice — Team Coaching and Mentoring

(24 hours contact time)

This module will provide participants with an opportunity to critically apply their understanding of theories and concepts of advanced coaching practice to their workplace.

Learning outcomes

  1. Critically analyse a variety of models of team coaching/mentoring in managing the dynamics of coaching/mentoring relationships including theories and models of organisation action, practice, complexity, activity and development.
  2. Critically apply and evaluate team coaching/mentoring approaches to engender effective team coaching/mentoring practice in the workplace.
  3. Critically apply reflective practice and reflexive techniques as a means of evaluating own performance to aid personal development as a team coach/mentor.

For the assessment, you will select and research a relevant team coaching/mentoring topic and write a reflective assignment helps them to demonstrate the ability to critically analyse and evaluate concepts, theories, arguments and models of coaching and mentoring and consider the model in context to challenges associated with team coaching and mentoring in a dynamic and diverse organisational context.

Module 3: Advanced Coaching Practice — Reflective Practice and Supervision

(13.5 hours contact time)

This module aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills of coaching and mentoring supervision. Participants will be introduced to a variety of concepts, theories, models and techniques to help develop a systematic understanding and critical awareness of the role of coach mentor supervisor in the process of organisational development.

Learning outcomes

  1. Critically analyse and apply the key concepts, theories and tools of coaching and mentoring supervision.
  2. Critically evaluate the complexities and challenges associated with coaching and mentoring supervision in a dynamic and diverse organisational context.
  3. Critically apply reflexive techniques as a means of evaluating and providing ethical and emotional insights in to build effective mentoring or coaching performance that builds relationships in a diverse social and cultural environment and so by enhances personal supervisory coaching practice.

For the assessment, you will show the capability to work effectively as a coach supervisor and demonstrate the required competence in the appropriate and timely employment of key coaching skills within a coaching/mentoring collegiate interventions.

How is the programme delivered?

There are three modules, comprising 60 hours of teaching taken over the course of a year. Cohorts of 8 to 12 participants work best through our blended format of virtual teaching.

PG Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring for Leadership in Organisations

The diploma supports learners to engage with contemporary coaching and mentoring theory, consider organisational and leadership application, and develop the capability to work with complexity in practice. For those progressing through the full MA pathway, the postgraduate diploma leads naturally to the full master's dissertation stage, which is delivered by Leeds Beckett University as the final year of the programme.
