As I stepped outside into the snowy scenes this month and saw the snow covering the fields and paths, the icy streams and rivers, I was in awe of those who choose to dash into the icy waters as a form of pleasure, those who roll in the snow to rush back into their saunas, those who set off early to make the first tracks in the snow. All with a view to invigorating their body and mind, to feeling re-energised and ready for anything the day might bring. It never fails to amaze me in my conversations with HR and L&D Professionals how many of them absolutely agree with me, that coaching is a desired leadership behaviour, but under examination, it is not one particularly evident or valued in their own organisation. Of course, there is always one ‘good person’ on the senior management team who is a champion, but can’t seem to get traction. Or some middle managers, who are pushing the cause. However, it is so rare to find a ‘real’ energised coaching culture in any organisation.
