5 Seasons as a Framework for Deepening Mentoring Conversation

In this session, we will draw inspiration from the ever-changing cycles of nature to enrich our conversations. The outer landscape meets the inner landscape: by observing the seasons, we can uncover insights about what we need to notice, learn, or let go.

Nature’s rhythms offer powerful metaphors and resources, not only for our own growth, but also for the journeys of our mentees. You will also be invited to reflect on a question you are currently holding, exploring it through the lens of five seasons.

Our hope is that this session sparks new questions, fresh perspectives, and deeper ways of engaging with your mentees.

Mentoring with Ikigai

In Japanese, IKIGAI means a ‘life worth living’. Iki – means ‘life’. Gai – means ‘worth’. Like Hataraki-gai (meaningful job) or Yari-gai (something worth doing).

What is your Mentoring-gai? What makes mentoring worth mentoring? How do you create meaning in your role as mentors? The true essence of IKIGAI invites you to savour the small, simple joys of everyday living. What gets you out of bed, what makes you feel alive? IKIGAI is a practice. A practice to feel and live by your values. A practice of self-awareness, self-discipline, love, compassion and to simply ‘be’ in the present moment. Mentoring with IKIGAI can create a powerful space to show up as our true selves and to help others find their IKIGAI spark.

June Kashio a Japanese humanitarian from London, has worked extensively in HR and psychosocial support with organisations including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Faced with personal loss, burnout, job loss, and cancer, June dedicates herself to helping others thrive and grow through life’s changes and challenges, drawing on the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai. She is an EMCC Accredited Life & Career Coach/Mentor, Certified Ikigai Coach, and Certified Grief Educator. June currently lives in Berlin with her teenage daughter.

Mentoring and Burn Out

Burnout describes a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that’s caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Modern life and the overwhelm of work, personal situations and the world we live in causes a culmination of stress that’s built up over time to leave individuals feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet the demands of their lives.

Join Alizee Derendinger and Lis Merrick to explore what is burn out? How to recognise the signs and how to support in a mentoring capacity.

Alizee Derendinger is a Learning & Development professional and certified coach who has spent over a decade supporting people’s growth and wellbeing in international NGOs such as WWF, the International Olympic Committee, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
A working mother of two, she understands firsthand the tension between purpose, performance, and personal balance. Through her mentoring and coaching, Alizée helps others recognise the signs of burnout, reconnect with their values, and create space for recovery and meaning. Having lived in Switzerland, Australia, and the USA, Alizée brings a global and human-centred perspective to her mentoring practice.
